Dear Fans,

I know it’s been ages so I apologize profusely, but when you hear what I have been up to and why I have been too busy to Blog, I know you’ll forgive me.

Since last we corresponded, I have had an extremely successful Photo shoot in East London directed by our new creative directors, Sam Harvey and Lorna Hamer. The pictures speak for themselves and I’m not going to spoil it for you, but I will say that there is nothing else like them on this planet right now. Futuristic, with retro influences, but at the same time very striking and powerful. They will certainly get you excited about acquiring your copy of the new album entitled, ‘2079’.

I have also had to do numerous tweaks vocally and verbally in the past number of weeks, to help make the album the masterpiece that we believe it now is! I think you will thank me for it when you purchase your copy on 2nd August 2010. Also this time around they will be available as hard copies as well as digital, so watch this space.

Another very important piece of news is that thanks to my online Coordinator/Marketer Margaret Buckley, I now have a 9-episode video Blog weekly viewing of my stint in LA. It was filmed and edited by Sam Harvey and it is exciting and fresh, showing off some of my fabulousness whilst hanging out with the likes of Sheryl Lee Ralph and Sister Sledge no less. What can I say, except that it was AWESOME!! Check out Episode 1 of Shena Goes Stateside, right here. Subsequent Episodes (9 in total!) will go live on my Muzu channel, and on the Muzu homepage, every Monday leading up to Monday 2nd August - the day my album, 2079 - is released.

Personally, my little boy Tyler turned 3 on May 5th. We celebrated it with with a Peter Pan themed party in which he showed up as a really handsome Captain Hook. It was exhausting but fun!!

You’ll be happy to hear that the 7th Heaven Club Mix of my fourth single, ‘Look Don’t Touch’ is now available as a free download. Click here to grab your MP3. You need to hand over your email address though, but hey it’s worth it! The single is due for release on 19th July 2010 and it will be accompanied by some fierce remixes.....You’re going to love it!!

I also have finally discovered Spotify, so keep an eye out for my dizcolicious playlists. We'll be posting them here on my website, on Facebook and Twitter etc too, very soon!

The final update is that my music is becoming very popular in Russia and CIS as well as in Europe in general. I am being recognised more and more thanks to Russia MTV. I believe that my popularity is growing exponentially and I am even learning Russian to endorse this newfound fame and appreciation.

I hope you guys feel that you are now up to speed in the wonderful world of Shena xx

FREE DOWNLOAD - Look Don't Touch 7th Heaven Club Mix

Shena here, with a free (320 kbps) download for you - 7th Heaven Club
Remix of my next single, Look Don't Touch, which is out 19th July 2010.

Look, Don’t Touch, has it's genesis in a Californian gay disco event
called Trocadero Transfer. During a recent personal appearance at this
event, I couldn’t help noticing how fantastically attractive a lot of
the gay men were – which, in turn, led me to think how frustrating my
Californian life would be if I were single!

The song’s production style is based on the SOLAR (sound of Los Angeles
radio) records of the '70's and '80's together with the West Coast vibe
of artists like Shalamar and The Whispers.

Thanks so much for your support, your feedback is important to me, so
please let me know what you think

Here's to a DIZCOLICIOUS summer!

Hey peeps

We're very very excited about the 4 brand spankin' new tracks we uploaded this week. We're trying to decide which one should be the next single & your feedback will be a massive help! If you have 2 mins to select your favourite of the 4 in the poll at the end of this post, we will love you forever!

The sound = Dizco. Here's what people are saying about it....

"Dizco takes the lush and funky production, fantastic songwriting and amazing vocals of the late '70's and early '80's disco era and fuses it with elements of cut-up disco, breaks, electro and disco-house to create a completely new sound. Dizco picks up the torch lit by Basement Jaxx and Shena is running with it!"

Starship Dizcolicious is my homage to George Clinton and Bootsy Collins, fused with cut-up disco and electronica. It's a super-hooky song, the subject matter a mythical nightclub on a spacecraft at the edge of the universe...or is it?!

Dirty Money - chic meets breakbeats meets prog house. A deep urban lyric addresses social issues and rocks the house at the same time.

How Come You're Dancing? Listen to the track and the question is instantly answered. Early 80s disco and cut-up disco influenced, funky as hell and set to fill dancefloors this summer.

Look Don't Touch - very fresh lyrics ponder an age-old taboo issue over a Shalamar/Whispers influenced, but smack up to date, production, Killer!

E.N.J.O.Y!

Ooh and please cast your vote if you have a minute...

//

&lt;a href="http://answers.polldaddy.com/poll/2986500/">Which track is your fav please? S x&lt;/a>&lt;span style="font-size:9px;">&lt;a href="http://www.polldaddy.com">survey software&lt;/a>&lt;/span>

Hed Kandi Nu Disco compilation album update

Hello friends!

My previously reported Hed Kandi collaboration is out now. Fred Falke's remix of Nasty Little Rumour appears on Hed Kandi Nu Disco, a collection of tracks representing the future sound of disco.

"Nu Disco is Hed Kandi's perspective on the natural evolution of our beloved disco as it is transformed into the pioneering distant futuristic sound of the 21st century. This is disco's budding romance with science fiction!"

2010...let's roll!

Dear friends & fans

Happy New Year to one and all. 2010 is set to be a jam packed year for Shena. She's been busy in the studio putting the finishing touches to TWELVE new songs!!! You'll be the 1st to hear them on Shena's websites...there's a ton of fresh material coming soon, you'll just have to be a bit patient!

Also coming up is the super-exciting Hed Kandi collaboration that we mentioned back in December. We can now exclusively reveal that the title of the new song is 'Homewrecker'. This, and several brand new remixes of Can't Stop The Rain, My Fantasy and Nasty Little Rumour, will be appearing on Hed Kandi releases later this year. As soon as we have more information, including release dates and store links, we'll share it with you. Remixers confirmed to date include Hostage, His Majesty Andre, Louis La Roche, Fred Falke, Weekend Millionaires and Earl Black. Everyone here at Shena HQ cannot wait for these!

Finally, after several trips to the US, Shena's video team are in the editing suite working on a series of videos documenting her travels. Hanging out with chief divas Sister Sledge, Patti Brooks and Faith Evans (amongst many others!), partying at San Francisco's legendary gay club, The Trocadero Transfer, and being snapped by celebrity photographer Alan Mercer (and indeed papped!)...it's all in there, this footage is gonna be HOT!

Peace x

Shena Winchester: A Real Disco Artist

"Shèna Winchester is not just a sensationally talented vocalist. She is
also a vivacious and gregarious beauty. The British born singer
graduated with honors from the Royal Academy of Music. Her main goal
has been to create infectious music that gets down deep inside the
listeners head and body. You can't help but dance to her catchy sounds.

Shèna
has produced some breath taking solo work with the release of three
incredibly well produced and received singles and is currently working
on her debut album, a project that will introduce a new sound that
dices together big, bold and classic orchestral disco with raw and edgy
breaks, beats and lyrics.

Now in 2010 she will release her first
solo album titled, 'One Man Woman.' She came to Los Angeles recently to
perform for the first time. Thanks to my friends, Michael Williams and
Pedro Arista from Medium Rare Records in San Francisco, we had a chance
to meet up and take some fun shots. I loved watching Shèna on stage and
I 'loved' taking photos of her. She is pure magic to be around and work
with. Shèna is blessed with a loving and kind disposition. We laughed
the whole time we were together. Eric Venturo was around so he helped
out with the lighting as usual.

AM: I have been listening to
all your music. You have done so much work for other artists. How does
it feel to be your own artist?

SW: It feels fantastic! I wonder why didn't I do it sooner? It's champagne meets lemonade. That's the difference.

AM: Who musically inspired you?

SW:
In her prime, Whitney Houston. Also people like Ella Fitzgerald, Lauren
Hill. I love voices that have power at the bottom range as well as the
top. There is a richness in the lower end that takes it up to the next
level. Oleta Adams is another prime example of that. Those are some of
the people I listen to and want to sound like. They are brilliant.

AM: You do sound like them but in your own unique way. I don't hear anyone but you when you sing.

SW: That's fantastic to hear that. That is the idea. I want to sound like 'Shena.'

AM: Is your album going to be released in 2010?

SW: That's right. We are releasing it world-wide on my own label called No Prisoners Records. My huband and I founded it.

AM: You wrote your songs didn't you?

SW:
My husband and I wrote all ten songs. We are bringing real disco back.
We want the bass and the looseness of the grooves. It was such a great
time for music and it's a shame it died.

AM: This was all before your time.

SW: Absolutely, I never got to experience it first hand so I have to catch it the second time around.

AM: Are you on a one woman crusade to bring back the joy and the fun of the music?

SW:
Absolutely I am. I want to bring it back and put a modern twist on it.
You want to bring a new crowd into it so they can appreciate it.

AM: Do you tour around the world? I see that you are performing in Moscow.

SW:
I have quite a career in the dance world so I still get asked to
perform my dance hits. Moscow is a place that really appreciates me.

AM: Have you performed there before?

SW: Yes I am always in Moscow. I have spent half my life in Moscow airport! (Laughing)

AM: Is this your first time in Los Angeles?

SW: Yes this is my first time and I love it. The people are positive and helpful and the weather is great!

AM: I hope you come back when your CD is out.

SW: I would love too. It's an honor and privilege to be here.

EV: You are on your way to greatness.

SW: Thank you very much."

Shena and Hed Kandi collaborating in 2010!

No Prisoners Records is joining forces with Hed Kandi in the New Year
to produce a new Shena single. It will incorporate classic disco
elements but also a new edge in keeping with the new
electro-disco-house scene being pioneered by Armand Van Helden an
A-track as 'Duck sauce'.

As a precursor to this Hed Kandi are
arranging for some of the most cutting edge remixers around to produce
new versions of Shena's singles. The first, a remix of 'Can't stop the
rain' by 'His Majesty Andre', was aired for the first time on Radio 1
last Thursday.

It’s been a while since last I was in touch, but all for
good reason. Life has been pretty hectic but extremely fruitful since my album
launch in July, which was a great success by the way. Let me bring you all up
to speed on what’s been happening in the wonderful world of Shena.

Since the launch I have been inundated with requests for
interviews, many credible online and printed press articles have appeared about
me including my huge feature in the London Lite paper, who were so impressed
that I featured one of their papers in my latest video, ‘Nasty little rumour’
that they wrote a glowing article about it which was viewed by millions of
people across London. The single is available for download on 21
October 2009. Also we’re not sure if we’ll have enough profile to get the album
out in the shops come October, but if you are really desperate then you can
purchase one of the limited edition by visiting shenaonline@gmail.com and I’ll sort a
copy out for you!

The video itself was shot in East London in and around
Shoreditch (the home of nu-disco). It featured my eldest sister Earleen, and
two of my Diva mates, Ange and Lucy. They all sported large black afros. Now all 3 are collectively known as the
Shenettes. It is a story of female empowerment as I learn through the grapevine
that my man is up to no good, so with their help and encouragement, I kick him
to the curb before heading off to the club where we all have the time of our
lives. The shoot was an exhausting 2 full days, but it was worth every minute!!

Since the album launch, I have received some serious
interest from the States including
meeting the legendary Joni Sledge from Sister Sledge, Paul Schindler the
no: 1 music lawyer at the moment. Also I have been invited to embark on a
LA/San Francisco tour on the 6th – 11th October, where I
am requested to sing on the same billing as Faith Evans and Yolanda Adams at
the Divas Simply Singing red carpet event in LA…OMG, OMG!! I think I will show
them what I am made of by singing, ‘My brave face’ the only ballad on the
album. I basically get to be really fabulous and promote my material over
there.

The other exciting news I have to tell you is that Hed Kandi
have decided to do a collaboration with myself and my extremely talented,
producer hubby James on an original nu-disco track, which combines their
marketing, promotional brand with our musical, hit-writing, Dizco no-how. The
single is due for release early next year. Finally I get to fully embrace my
existing fanbase from the club world and who knows the sky’s the limit. I’ll
try to keep you up to speed with all the latest developments.

One final thing, we are planning on putting up an online
shop, so watch this space for limited editions vinyl etc.

Well that’s all for now folks and I’ll catch you laterz.

	Peace and love,

My album launch!

Dear fans, friends and fellow divas,

Last week marked the single most important performance of my musical career to date – my album launch. It was set in one of London’s coolest, studio 54-esque venues right in the heart of London called Studio Valbonne and most people who had accepted the official invitations came, so the venue was heaving from about 8pm onwards.

The night was run in collaboration with Carwash who were responsible for theming the venue and other major creative decisions including booking the DJ Luke Howard from Horse Meat Disco and half filling the club with other members of the Carwash posse. It got off to a rocky start with my hairstylist arriving a little later than planned which forced me to go on stage half an hour later than planned, but from there on in it was plain sailing.

My sister and Executive Director from my label No Prisoners Records, opened the night with a speech about nu-disco and me being at the heart of it.

We commenced the performance with Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough a tribute to the late Michael Jackson and dancers grooved on the dance floor for the first 45 seconds. OK Magazine’s Chief Editor Piers happily snapped pictures of me, my sisters, James; my hubby, producer, manager, co-writer and MD of the night’s performance, both before, during and after the show.

All in all it was a great success, the band rocked, the crowd were on fire and I got some tongues wagging that night. The tight segues from one song to the other, the carefully placed spiel in a few appropriate places and the atmosphere both on and off the stage was electric. Plenty of people had made an effort by sporting 'fros or flares. I wore my Ami Stewart-esque dress, with silver eyelashes and Farrah Fawcett hair and I didn’t hear a single complaint.

The feedback has been absolutely phenomenal and a buzz has definitely started about me and my music in the industry

The launch consisted of all but one of the songs on the album and it is due for release 31st August, so watch this space folks as I’m sure they’ll be more live shows to follow!!

"It’s midnight on Friday on the 33rd floor of Centre Point, the skyscraper that
towers over the West End, and the place is partying like it’s 1977. There’s
no Bianca Jagger on a white horse, but the Reverse Sunrise night could be
Studio 54 in its late-1970s heyday — a 360-degree view of the city from the
floor-to-ceiling windows, lights spinning off the mirror balls and the
dancefloor throbbing to the sounds of Rose Royce, Chic and Chaka Khan"

My gig @ The Pigalle Club

Hiya Peops,

I must report on my first live gig at The Pigalle Club, London. This took place on Friday 19th June and it was one hell of a night!! I sang all 10 songs off the album and in the words of my plugger Chris, we smashed it and he said if we do that at the album Launch on the Thursday 9th July at Studio Valbonne, then we will create a buzz in the industry….which is exactly what we want to achieve!

Initially I started off a bit slowly and not at all how I would normally do my Dance diva set, because I was new to it and that’s the only reason, whereas I have been singing my famous house hits for years. The crowd were shy to come forth at first and as I was concentrating a lot on my singing, that was where my focus was. At the beginning of the second half, I introduced Kim Mazelle, who sang the cover Young Hearts run free and then I dueted with her on I will Survive. Kim reminded me what I need to do to get people clambering to the dancefloor…She was awesome and I told everyone that they don’t call her a legend for nothing for that reason. She also happens to be a lovely woman who prayed for us before the performance. She was very complimentary of me and my music also. On my Facebook page my fans said that Kim was a very nice surprise!

By the second half I had everyone rocking. The band were fierce and I was very honoured to have them play for me! People were enjoying themselves and at the end the crowd asked for two encores so we repeated Can’t stop the rain and One man woman.

One of my fans had this to say about the performance:

Shena, what can I say, I had the most amazing night! We got there a little into your 1st set, but the crowd was buzzing and already busting some moves in between cocktails. I was thrilled to see you wore the fantastically glam sliver hotpants and boots that you wore in your last video. Camp it up honey, love it! It was a great to see you up there with over 10 musicians and backing singers. For once, live meant live. No backing tape, no dj spinning the tracks while you sang along. Nope, everthing was done on the spot. I particularly enjoyed My Fantasy and the funky extended percussion intro, it really got everyone going. Into your 2nd set of the night, Kym Mazelle came on, introducing herself briefly then spending a lot longer bigging you up to the audience, before launching into Young Hearts Run Free. I spotted a few celebs in the audience too, including Richard, the Gay Canadian hottie from Big Brother 7, who was seriously getting down to your set, and, incidentaly, looked really smiley and nice. It was SUCH a memorable night. Please please please do more shows like this in London!!!

Steven Worthing

London

All in all the night was a success according to the people I spoke to after the performance so roll on the next one.

Anyway thanks to all those who came and supported me and for those who missed it, don’t worry hopefully there will be plenty more.

Peace and love,

Shèna xx

Popular music blogger, Pop Trash Addicts, voted My Fantasy as their Single Of The Week...

Read it here!

Shena - My Fantasy

Disco never dies!

CC:
Mmm disco music. Never really been my thing. There's nothing really
wrong with this song, it's just that this stuff all sounds the same to
me. Great soulful voice but I have to deduct points for this just not
being my fave genre even though that's a little unfair. 2/5
D'Luv: You can sorta tell Shena probably gives wicked-awesome head. 3/5
Mike:
The thing I love most about "My Fantasy" is the fact that it's
authentic disco (ie. with real instruments) not some tragic modern day
interpretation. Shena could be the cult diva of 2009. 4/5
Pablo: Totally like! Nothing new about this sound, heard it all before, but it's always good to get up and dance. 4.75/5
Paul:
Ooh this is bloody ace. It reminds me of that Sheena Easton album of
disco covers from a few years back. This is drenched in the super
sounds of disco and sounds so familiar that you swear you have heard it
before. This is possibly the best song that i have discovered through
the pop panel suggestions. Aces. 4.5/5
Rob: Disco arouses me to the core. I think she can do better though. 4/5
The Prophet: Fabulous! Love the 70's disco vibe. This is so good! 4/5
Total: 26.25/35

Shena's blog about video shoot No 2

Hiya Peops,

You haven’t heard from me for a while because I have been busy completing the album, earning my keep as a live PA artist, performing all over mainly eastern Europe and last but not least I have been getting my body in shape for my 2nd videoshoot in Slovenia on 18th May. You’ll be pleased to hear that it all went swimmingly well; I was fortunate enough to have the best backing vocals and club buddies ever in the shape of my three gorgeous sisters, Earleen, Karen and Michelle starring in it. My brother-in-law, Paul (Earleen’s Hubby) also came along and flew us all there and back private jet. He sorted out our food for us and all in all I felt very blessed to have my family involved in my videoshoot!! It was a fantastic experience and an extremely fun one. The comedy and debates that we all enjoyed whilst there was legendary!

Anyway the shoot itself was a gruelling 20 hour shift. They picked me up in the morning at 6:40am Slovenian time (that’s 5:40am UK time arrrgghhh!!) and I didn’t finish my last sketch until just after midnight when my sisters, make up artists and the majority of the dancers had gone home, so it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work out how I was feeling by the end of it!

One of the most exciting things about the whole videoshoot was my fantasy character, which is Disco man as well as a CGI being. He is my fantasy throughout and he performs a spoof of the John Travolta dance routine in the movie Saturday night fever….This is what really gets my attention. This character is played by Glenn Ball a very good looking young man and wicked dancer. He is also the choreographer of all the dance routines including mine with him. Bless him because for quite a long proportion of the day he had to wear a scull cap, which manually had square pieces of glass stuck all over his head and neck so that his head looked like a disco ball – pure genius - so when he sweated it went in his ears…. But don’t worry we asked him to send in his invoice after the shoot! He was fantastic as this character, the only thought we had was that it was a shame to hide such an attractive face under all that glass!

I would also like to add that the 8 dancers from the UK as well as the Slovenian dancers and extras, all worked extremely hard throughout the day, did an excellent job and really added something special to my new video…so thanks team!!

Anyway one criticism of the day was that the crew could have handled us (the client) a little better - I actually think that the director was a little misogynistic because the normal etiquette one would expect for a professional videoshoot wasn’t there. Like we only met our personal assistants twice throughout the entire day. There was no make-up artist to hand whilst we were on stage sweating like pigs and when I mentioned it to the director the lady he spoke to threw a strop at him and stormed off having just thrust the paper towels into his hand, which in turn he gave to me and marched off….Sorry guys but that’s not how it’s done in the UK thank God!! However apart from our poor treatment off the stage and bearing in mind we were working to a tight budget and deadline, these guys delivered and the proof of that is evidently with the video edit itself, so I’ll say no more but watch this space and enjoy it when it becomes live on YouTube. Trust me there is nothing else like it out there!!

Peace and love,

Shèna xx

Read about Shena in today's Observer Review

Shena features in today's Observer Review in an article celebrating artists who are putting their own stamp on retro music.

"Shèna Winchester has no qualms about acknowledging her musical debts.
The Royal Academy-trained singer, whose current single "Can't Stop The
Rain" has brought a sparkle to radio playlists, is a disco obsessive.
"I'm not going to pretend I came up with this myself," she says. "Donna
Summer, Chic and Rose Royce inspired me to do music in the first place.
They are my role models and I'm not about to turn my back on them."

Ally Carnwath, Observer Review, 05/04/09

Hiya Peops, Xmas of 2008 is now an almost distant memory and with it goes the opportunity to pig out and not regret it until now, when we realize that our waistlines and bank balances are not what they were or should be! But on a happier note 2009 is loaded with fresh opportunity and a chance to make good on our New Years resolutions.

Mine are to have a platinum selling album, a Brit award, a Grammy, an Oscar nomination and, let’s go for the full house, a Nobel Peace Prize!…..Only joking I’d settle for a flat stomach and no overdraft!

I’m still recording tracks for my solo album, due out this year and just to get you excited it’s done in a very fresh but classic style. You’re going to love it. (I hope!)

I wish all my friends, colleagues, fans and anyone else who knows me a very happy, peaceful and prosperous New Year and I hope to speak to you again soon.

Love, peace and respect,

Shèna. x

ps: please check out my new Facebook page & become a fan. This is where you'll find my new tracks, all the latest news, gig listings, videos, blogs & very soon, an exclusive FREE DOWNLOAD!
